I can count on one hand the number of times Miss Halia has slept through the night. Last night was the third (non-consecutive) full night’s sleep of her life; she went down around 7:30 and stayed asleep until 6:00 a.m.. That’s a little early to get up for my taste, but hey, who can complain when she slept for ten-and-a-half hours right?! Sleeping through the night — woo hoo!
If only I hadn’t gone to bed at 12:45 a.m. (which was when I finished cooking the dog’s food — I am completely farkin’ serious — and doing the dishes).
And if only our smoke alarm hadn’t gone off at 1:30 a.m.. No smoke anywhere, though I was rattled enough to check the whole house. It seems this particular alarm doesn’t just give little warning beeps when the battery is low, oh no, it needs to blare out, “Help! Your lives are in imminent danger because I’m about the run out of juice! Replace my battery now! NOOOOOOOOWW!“ The alarm is right outside Jade’s door. I’m grateful that she slept right through it and that Michael was able to neutralize it in under a minute. On the other hand, um, she slept through a FIRE ALARM?
So yeah, not a restful night. But trying to remember to celebrate in between the yawns.

So Cavan isn’t the only evil child who won’t sleep through the night?? I think he has only done it twice so far. You give me hope that it might happen again!
There are actually studies showing that a large number of children sleep right through fire alarms (I can’t remember the reasons the study gave). It’s one of the reasons why smoke alrams are available that also use a voice recording telling you there is a fire … apparently children are often more responsive to the voice.
