@#%$! Daffodil-Eating Bison

10 May

The good news is that I have finished the work I was putting off.  Michael went out beaver hunting with an elder last night, so I had lots of time where I wasn’t distracted by his entertaining presence.

This morning, as I was putting on my shoes for Nanuq’s usual walk, I heard Michael utter a strangled, "Aaargh!"  I said to myself, "I hope he did that because the dog nipped his feet playfully."  I said this to myself because I somehow knew there was something wrong with my flowers.  It must have been a very eloquent cry.  Or perhaps two and half years of marriage has made me telepathic.

As I emerged from the house, I noted that Michael had an expression somewhere between a pout and a frown, as he glared at the flowerbed.  All the tops had been eaten off all the daffodils and tulips!  No, sorry, that’s not true.  All the tops were gone, but in some cases, the flower buds had simply been torn off and re-deposited into the flower bed.  The tell-tale round hoof-prints of the bison abounded.

Michael looked so upset, it somehow kept me from getting upset.  I am somehow philisophical about it.  I think I’ll just go sharpen a spear . . . .

This makes me so sad. Especially because your previous blog was so happy. But for some odd reason I laughed too. Am I evil? Or am I just a trooper?

Oh yes, I forgot to mention that they also ate the chives. Apparently they\’re the perfect complement to a tulip and daffodil salad.
