Full House (Again!)

27 Oct
If our lives were a poker game, I wonder how much money we could make?
We’ve got some more folks coming to stay at our house and they’re moving in tonight.  This time we’re getting Hillary, Dennis, and their two little boys (a 2-year-old and a 4-year-old) as well as their dog, Tuktu.  (Tuktu, by the way, is the Inuktitut word for caribou, so he’ll fit right in with our dog, Nanuq, whose name is Inuktitut for polar bear.)  I’m quite excited about having the family stay with us because they’re all so much fun!  They actually live in Whitehorse, but they’re homeless for about a week while their new home undergoes the finishing touches of construction.
We spent some time with them (minus dog) a couple of weekends ago, and I realized after they left how very peaceful our childless life is.  The two boys are well-behaved but of course they have all the energy you would expect out of 2- and 4-year-olds!  Michael’s pack-rat sensibilities came in handy, as he had a box full of toy cars and finger puppets that the boys loved.  I know life will be busy and tiring when our baby is born, but at least we’re not leaping into two toddlers right away!
I cleaned up the guest room on Tuesday night and took out a big wardrobe box that had been sitting empty for some time.  Michael asked what we should do with it, and I said collapse it and put it in the car port until we can get it back to the moving company.  On second thought, maybe the boys would like to play with it.  Michael latched onto that idea right away, and the next time I came out of the guest room, the box was on its side and decorated with shapes, numbers, alphabet, and dinosaurs.  One of the flaps over the opening said, "Fort (kids only)".  Crook, in his usual crookiness, went exploring in the box not long after.  When Michael discovered the cat was inside, he decided to follow this lead.  Then he called Nanuq until the dog crawled in, too.  It must have been cozy in the box with all that fur.  I reminded Michael that his sign said "kids only" and he reminded me that he’s just a big kid.  You said it, sweetie!

I had a bit of back pain for a few days last week, but that\’s gone away again so, lucky me, I\’m feeling great! I got a bit nervous, too, because I notice less baby activity for a few days, but it picked up again yesterday. This morning I woke up at 6 a.m. (thanks to Daylight Saving Time and a cat who\’s "stomach-clock" is not yet adjusted) and got a few good kicks fromt the baby for good measure. That\’s one thing I don\’t mind being woken up for! (At least not yet – haha!)
