Halloween in Whitehorse

31 Oct
Well, if everything had gone according to plan, I would have spent yesterday shopping and this morning would have started my PeopleSoft course in downtown Vancouver.  However, not even a week before I was supposed to leave, I found out the course had been cancelled.  I was very disappointed, as I’ve been looking forward to the training, not to mention getting some of my Christmas shopping done.  On the bright side, I am now able to attend the SAS training that the computer department here organized (and which I have been waiting for for months!) and I also get to spend Halloween answering the door to our neighbourhood ghosties and goblins, instead of languishing in a hotel room.
Michael’s particularly happy that I’ll be here, since he didn’t really want to dispense candy.  Halloween is his favourite holiday because he likes to make it really memorable for the kids by finding ways to scare them when they come to the house.  I think he may fall back on his old stand-by of Mr. Shaving-Cream-Head (possibly never-before-seen in Whitehorse!) and hide under our stairs to check out the scare-worthiness of incoming kiddos.  We’ll have to shroud our porch light so that they can’t get a good glimpse of him, so that will add to the mood.  Last year I bought a CD of Halloween sound effects, so we’ll put that to use, as well.
I even managed to borrow a "Grim Reaper" costume (thought Michael suggests I should really be the "Grim Bearer") from Cathy across the street, so I have something to wear to my potluck lunch at work today and I can really get into the spirit of things.
So I’m not getting any smarter at PeopleSoft, but at least I’ll be having a fun day!
Happy Halloween everyone.
