Fill ‘er up foxtrot

30 Nov
For your entertainment, I must relate what happened to me yesterday when I went to fill my gas tank.
I went to the gas station and saw that a car was about to leave the pumps, so I waited for it to leave so I could pull right into its spot, thus leaving the other pump on that side free for someone else to use — isn’t that thoughtful of me?  I pulled up with the gas tanks on my left.  You’d think after driving a car for almost two years, I’d be able to remember that the gas tank is on the passenger side.  The gas hose wasn’t long enough to reach around, so I tried the other pump, but that one wasn’t long enough, either.  There was nothing for it, I had to move the car.
I pulled out thinking I’d make a three-point turn and get the car facing the other way. But then saw that the pumps on the other side of the station were available, so I made a wide turn and pulled in next to them…with the tanks on the left side!  I shut off the engine, got out, cursed and got back in.
I made another wide turn to pull to the correct side of the pumps when an RCMP truck came through the gas station.  I hoped they weren’t watching me, as anyone observing my stupid gas station dance would have assumed I was drunk.  But I wasn’t drunk, just losing my mind.
