Michael and Munchkin like potstickers

2 Dec
Michael loves my mom’s dumplings, which most of you will know (if you know them at all) as potstickers.  The last time I made them, I made a huge batch for freezing that lasted for several months; they’re a lot of work, so even when there are lots in the freezer, I still serve them sparingly!  But that was back in Fort Liard; since moving here Michael’s been asking for me to make them again.  He obviously has me twisted around his little finger — first the Christmas cakes, and now this!
I got the ingredients earlier in the week and last night when I found out the first prenatal class was cancelled, I decided I’d start on the potstickers.  I wasn’t able to make enough dough, though, as I unwittingly used up all the white flour in the house, so  I only used up half the filling (ground pork, shredded chinese cabbage, sesame oil, green onions, ginger, and soy sauce).  Even still, I started at 8 p.m. and didn’t finish until midnight.  (And then I stayed up getting my cookies packaged up for the cookie exchange tonight — but that’s another story.)
Michael got home from Nahanni Butte today and I went to the airport to pick him up.  His plane was to arrive at 1:07, so I got there just before 1:00, only to find that his plane had already arrived at 12:45.  I looked high and low for him, called the house for messages, worried that he had missed the plane, wondered if he’d decided to walk home.  I finally drove home and discovered that he had indeed walked and had just arrived.  Upon arrival at the airport, he had looked at his watch, which was set to Nahanni Butte time (one hour ahead) and thought the plane was late rather than early!  He figured since I wasn’t there, I wasn’t coming.  What a silly boy.
Just before I got home, Michael had looked in the fridge and discovered the leftover potsticker filling, so he was all excited about that.  He didn’t realize that I’d already made a bunch, so when I took them out of the freezer that was the crowning touch for lunch.
Now I’m back at work.  I had a bit of pain in my right side, just beneath my ribs, so I pressed on the spot and discovered the little one is in there kicking that spot furiously.  I guess s/he likes those potstickers as much as Michael does.  And I must say, I enjoyed them, too.
Still, maybe I should make Michael finish the job…

In my defence, I haven\’t asked you to make them in a long time. (Thanks for the surprise!)
