I Dream of Cookies…

19 Dec
When I got home on Friday evening, I found a message on my answering machine from Dr. Ikeji.  I had left a message at her office letting her know about how thirsty I had been over the past few weeks.  She told me not to worry too much, since my glucose test had been good and low, but she also said to avoid ALL sugar over the weekend and call her on Monday.
I admit that I normally have a bit of a sweet tooth, but I’m not really bad about it.  But to have NO sugar at all!  I assumed that the doctor meant refined sugar and continued to have milk (which contains lactose, after all) and fruit (which contains glucose and possibly other natural sugars . . . hey I’m not a food scientist!), but no truffles, no yogurt, not even my Oat Bran squares cereal.  Not to mention the ginger cookies and English pancakes Michael decided to make this weekend.  And he’s also planning to make mincemeat tarts.
No sugar right before Christmas!  And I can’t even pretend I’m giving it up for Lent.
