39-Week Doctor’s Visit

25 Jan
I’m not 39 weeks until tomorrow, but close enough to call today’s doctor’s visit that.  I saw Dr. Williams today; I haven’t seen her since pretty early on in the pregnancy because she works in the clinic only on Wednesdays.  I was really impressed, though, that she remembered Michael hadn’t come in before because he hadn’t yet moved from the NWT – wow!
One of the first things Dr. Williams told me when we sat down with her was that one of the doctors in Whitehorse had Googled the other doctors’ names and come up with my blog when he searched on Dr. Ikeji’s name.  It’s funny – I know that anyone out there with Internet access can view my blog, but it’s still somehow surprising when someone tells me how they stumbled onto it.  I guess it’s just as surprising for them to find themselves on someone else’s website!
In terms of the medical part of the appointment, everything still looks good.  I weighed in at 185lbs, which is 1.5 more than last time and a total of 32 lbs so far.  My blood pressure was good and the baby’s heart rate was good.  My fundal height measurement was consistent with past weeks; when I asked Dr. Williams about the fact that it has been small all along, she plotted the measurements on a chart to show the baby’s growth is right on target.  It was really nice to get that reassurance!
