Long Lonely Day

8 May
Boy, it’s amazing how much longer the day is when Michael isn’t in it!  I didn’t realize how much I look forward to him coming home 5:00 or 5:30, even though half the time he just waves hello and then heads to his desk to work on his contracts.
Sometime this afternoon I found myself wishing not just for some company, but also for someone to hand the baby to just for half an hour or so.  She was in a great mood and very active, but I just felt like I’d run out of things to do with her.  That is, she was happy to just keep jumping and bouncing but my arms weren’t up to it anymore.
We had two spectacular blorps today; I know none of you are coming her just to read about Jade throwing up, but she’s had a really good run of them lately!  The first one was after her first feed of the morning, which was weird; I mean, she hadn’t eaten in 8 1/2 hours (slept from midnight to 8:30 a.m. – hooray!) so it wasn’t like her tummy was over-full.  We were on my bed for the second one.  Fortunately, the bed was made (for once!), so only the top blanket got blorped.  Woo hoo, more laundry.  I have a huge pile of blankets to do now, since three of them are still dusty from when there used to cushion the hutch and buffet on their way to our house in the back of a friend’s truck.
Okay, enough about upchucking babies.  I really got on to upload some pictures for Michael so he won’t miss a thing.  (Oops, maybe I should have gotten some blorping pictures.)  The pics are going up under the album "Pictures for Papa III".  I apologize that so many of the pictures are blurry – I’m not sure what I’ve been doing wrong.  And I can’t even blame it on lack of sleep.

    Hi Fawn,
I love the way you write, I can totally relate to all your observations on motherhood. I noticed a little while ago you were looking for ways to get Jade to sleep through the night and I wanted to offer another option for you.  I am not a believe in Crying it out (although it\’s easier to say that after a full night sleep than at 3 am) and I found this book very helpful : the No Cry Sleep Solution by Elizabeth Pantley.  It sounds like Jade is sleeping well though a lot of the time, I would be tempted to say that if she is sleeping 8 hrs on the odd occation you are on the right path – don\’t mess with it!

Hi Jamie!  I\’m so glad you\’re enjoying my space — I\’d been wondering if my entries hadn\’t been getting too mundane lately, so it\’s so nice to get the positive feedback.  It\’s so nice to hear from you again, too!  It\’s hard to get at the computer these days, so I\’ve been out of touch with a lot of people.
Thanks for the book recommendation; I\’ll have to check it out.  This past week and a half have been much better.  Jade\’s been sleeping through the night and not giving me a fight before bed.  I admit I\’ve been nursing her most of the way to sleep, which many would say is a bad thing, but we\’re both so much happier.  Still, everyone says she\’ll probably stop sleeping through the night again at some point (like when she\’s teething) so I may very well be looking for solutions again down the road!
