Rockin’ and rollin’

24 Jun
On Thursday, Jade managed to turn from her back to her front.  Her
arm was still under her chest, but she wasn’t just on her side.
Yesterday, she turned from her front to her back while I was busy
talking to Michael, so it was a completely unassisted roll.  Yay
Jade!

We had one night this week (I think it was Tuesday) with Jade sleeping
through, but otherwise I’ve had to be up for several hours each
night.  It would be so much more bearable if she would just nurse
and then go back to sleep, but having to stay up for an hour or more is
excruciating.

We’ve been wondering if she’s ready to start solids now.  She
loves watching us eat and sometimes grabs for our plates or food
(although I’m not sure that she’s just not happening to grab the things
closest to her).  The "experts" now advise delaying solid foods
until 6 months, but then some of the sources actually say 4 to 6
months.  Since Jade will be 5 months next Friday, she’s definitely
in that window.  I think we might go get some rice cereal soon and
give it a try.  And we’ll see if that does anything to her sleep…

I’m not really myself when I’m not sleeping properly — definitely a
lot less patient.  Which makes it all the more difficult to deal
with a crying baby.  Ah, well, they say the only constant is
change, so here’s hoping for the best.

I think you\’re smart to notice that she is ready for solids. I started Alex at almost 5 months (she stopped sleeping through the night). Sometimes moms are the experts and you should listen to your gut. If you are feeding her, I highly suggest filming it. Her first solids – what a big occassion!!!!

Ah, it\’s nice to know that you started Alex sooner — it makes me feel better about not delaying it because of the "experts". 🙂
