I can’t think of a good title for this posting

28 Aug
I haven’t posted because I have been feeling so uninspired.  I still am, so be prepared for yet another posting about baby sleep and behaviour.
Also, Michael and I have been working hard on getting Jade into a routine/schedule so that she’ll sleep better.  I am happy to say that it seems to be working.  Jade finally slept through the night again last night for the first time in a LOOOONG time.  She went to bed around 7:30, happily gurgling to herself, fell asleep — by herself  and without a soother — around 8:00.  I gave her her "dream feed" at 10:30 and she slept through until 6:30.  Ideally, I’d like her to sleep until 7:00, but hey, I’ll take it!  She’s also having good naps during the day.  Usually one that lasts 90 minutes and another one that lasts 2 hours, and sometimes an extra little "catnap" of 30 to 45 minutes in the early evening.  This means I can actually do some things on my own, which so far has meant catching up on my own sleep!
Her appetite is also growing.  A few days ago she had not two, not three, but FIVE cubes (i.e. baby food frozen in ice cube trays) of homemade carrots and sweet potatoes!  I had heated up two, which she devoured, then heated up another one, which she devoured even faster, and so I heated up two more and she left only a baby spoonful at the end.  Whew!  That’s a lot of food — even for an adult it would have been a pretty good portion of vegetables.
Jade is also working hard on her mobility.  She has discovered that she can push herself backwards across the floor when she is on her belly, although she’d really rather go forward.  She is much happier on her belly now — no fussing after 30 seconds on her tum — and is doing really good push-ups.  She can get her whole body off the floor so that she is resting only on her hands and her toes.  I can’t even do that!  She’s approaching the 7-month mark here and I think it won’t be long before she starts to crawl in earnest.
Unfortunately, we’re a little off-track today because Michael took her out for a walk with the neighbour’s dog, who escaped and he spent a lot of time looking for the dog and Jade ended up missing her lunchtime as well as her nap time.  I hurriedly fed her when I got her home (as Michael went off to continue searching for Brandy) and then put her down for her nap just before 2:00 — an hour late.  It’s only 2:45 now but I can hear Jade is awake again, although she is happy.  Now I don’t know if I should let her get up or try to make her go back to sleep!  Oh well, I’d better go to her before she gets upset.
