My (ever) little girl

1 Nov
It’s been a long time since I went to a "Weight and Measure" clinic at the Whitehorse Health Centre, so I dropped in today.  I’ve been trying to measure Jade’s length and have been finding it difficult, as she won’t lie still.  I keep getting 71 cm, which is the same as she was two months ago — that can’t be right, can it?  I mean, it seems like she’s growing out of clothes.  Well, it turns out either her clothes are shrinking or we somehow stretched her when we measured her before ’cause when the nurse measured her we got… 71 cm.
Jade has gained some weight in the last two months (which is good), but it seems to be lower than the weight we had for her before her surgery.  The hospital’s scale said she was 16lbs 8oz. and now she weighs 16lbs 2oz.  Even taking into account the bit that got cut out of her during surgery and also the probable discepancy between scales, it seems likely that she has lost some weight in the past few weeks.  The nurse said that she is likely using up a lot of calories healing herself and besides that she’s extremely mobile.  So she told me to feed her as much as she would eat (which we do, anyway, but I guess I’ll start offering her even more snacks — any suggestions for healthy calorie-dense snacks for toothless babies?) and to nurse her whenever she wakes in the night and wait until next month to start sleep training again.  *Sigh*  Well, the Baby Whisperer might not approve but I think I agree with trying to get more calories into her.  I’m supposed to go back to the clinic in two weeks to see if there has been any weight gain.
It seems like it would be difficult, though, to gain any weight when eating a diet of mostly vegetables and cereal and having a very active lifestyle.  Hmm, sounds like maybe a lifestyle I should adopt…

I know Alex lost weight when she became mobile and most moms I talk to say this is common. Alexandria\’s weight has fluctuated a lot since she started walking, running and jumping. She\’s in the lowest weight percentile and is in the 75th percentile for height. She eats all day non-stop but only weighs 19lbs 8oz and she\’s almost a year and a half. My Dr. says it\’s just her body type and not to be concerned as long as she\’s eating healthy balanced meals and snacks. Have you tried giving Jade 1/2 a bagel to much on or even cheese (Alex was eating these b4 teeth). Maybe Jade is going to be the long and lean type too.

She definitely seems to be the long and lean type.  The last time she was measured (before this) she was in the 25th percentile for weight but over the 90th for her length.  Anyway, I\’ll just try to offer her snacks more often — haven\’t ever given her a bagel or cheese yet, so I will definitely gives those a try.  Thanks for the suggestion! 🙂
