The eternal student (a self-indulgent post)

2 Mar
This week I have been volunteering at the Athlete’s Village of the Canada Winter Games; for those of you not from Whitehorse, the Athlete’s Village is where all the athlete’s live while they’re in Whitehorse.  During non-CWG times, it is actually the Yukon College.
For the past few months I’ve been feeling kind of dumpy and frumpy.  Maybe it was mommydom catching up with me.  As Beanie knows, there’s power in knowing you look good and in having guys hit on you.
At each of my CWG volunteer shifts so far, I’ve been asked at least once if I am a student at the college.  This makes me laugh, since I haven’t been a student in almost 7 years.  I don’t necessarily want to look like a student, but I guess it’s nice that I don’t look old, anyway!
Jade and I got a lot of attention at the Cultural Festival last night.  I gave her a rushed and early supper at the daycare and hustled over to ATCO Place to watch Michael play with The Big Band.  Michael had dropped off my amauti for me and one of the official CWG photographers thought Jade was so cute, he had to get some pics of her in the amaut.  And then one of the painters in the artists’ area also asked to take pictures of us because she sometimes does paintings loosely based on photos she has taken.
So somehow that all leaves me feeling less frumpy and dumpy.  Nobody was flirting with me, but just getting the attention was satisfying.  Now how self-absorbed is that?!

In the safest, most platonic way possible, let me say that you are a beautiful woman, and not in that silly "you have a lovely personality" kind of way. Michael will back me up on this.

Awwww, thanks Peaeater.  And don\’t worry: Michael\’s not the jealous type. 😉
I really should add that I wasn\’t fishing for compliments, but just wanted to say how nice it is to be feeling better!  It probably also helps that I seem to have recovered my health now, too.
