Playing nurse

14 Mar
Last night I was at work until 11:30 p.m.

I felt it was only fair that I do a little work, since I didn’t go in until 9:30 and I left again at 12:30.  Michael’s back and neck had gotten so stiff, he couldn’t move his head at all, and he was in no shape to look after Jade.

We went to Dr. Patel’s office at 2:15 and I was reassured that Jade’s rectal prolapse is not life-threatening and we’ll just need to monitor it for a while.  We’re also being referred to a pediatrician to be on the safe side.  The fever seems to be unrelated, but since her temperature keeps climbing back up, Dr. Patel forbade her from going to daycare this week.  Which is why I’m home today.

As for Michael, Dr. Patel put him on antibiotics (the liquid kind, since he can’t swallow pills . . . the receptionist at the pharmacy had a tiny giggle over it, too), ordered a battery of blood tests, and got him in to the hospital today to have a chest x-ray.  Apparently, something in Michael’s right lung doesn’t sound quite right.  Right now we’re just hoping he doesn’t have meningitis or something equally scary.

It took quite a while to put Jade to bed last night, since she’d had a late and long nap in the afternoon after spending several hours traipsing from doctor to hospital to pharmacy to hospital….  The only soother that works on her right now is my breast, and I swear my nipples are both bruised.  She’d better be over this before I got to Vancouver next month.

As I left my office, semi-comatose, I wondered to myself why it is that Jade’s intestines are so wayward, always popping out in places they’re not supposed to be.

By which you might deduce that I, at least, am feeling a bit better.

Good to hear Jade\’s prolapse is "not life-threatening." You sound less worried than a couple of days ago, for sure. When are you in Vancouver?Peaeaterhttp://www.peaeater.com

Hey ladybug… I wanna call you, but I\’m afraid of waking people who need sleep. So – I\’ll content myself with posting this comment and thinking about you and letting you get in touch with me when things are going better. xoxoxox

    Thanks for your comments, everyone!

Peaeater, I\’ll be in Vancouver from late on April 8th (the Sunday of Easter weekend) until late on the 12th.  My course runs Monday to Wednesday, and picked a late flight on Thursday so that I could do some errands before heading back north.  Funnily, Michael and I will be passing each other in the air.  He\’s heading down on the 12th to attend a seminar that starts on the 13th…
