Answers to the Jade Vocabulary Contest

19 Dec
So with that rousing round of the contest, it’s time to reveal the actual answers to Jade’s puzzling words.

  • otsch = orange
  • why? = away, as in "put this away".  In some ways she’s a real neat freak.  She must get that from Uncle Tim.
  • bank ‘et = blanket
  • teesh = teeth
  • gunna! = gone! which really means "empty"
  • feesh… yeah? = fish (as in Goldfish crackers) "Yeah" is Jade’s all-purpose way of saying "I want this".  It is accompanied by vigorous head-nodding.
  • gaon = crayon (that took me a while to figure out, and only came clear when she went to get one to show me)
  • sheesh = sheep
  • bed = bed, but really she means blanket – she likes to put a blanket on the floor and then lie down on it
  • baw = ball
  • nohsh = nose
  • mau-f (has two meanings) = mouth and mouse
  • dack = sock
  • ba = her favourite word, it seems, meaning bottle.  Now that I don’t breastfeed her during the day, she often drinks over a litre of milk per day!
  • I’m expecting Jade to learn "pictures" any day now, because she’ll now hold a pose when I ask her if I can go get the camera to take a picture.  She nods her head and obediently stays put while I find the camera and get the flash warmed up.  And when we show her the pictures on the camera, she’s never satisfied when we turn it off.  She always points at the blank screen and asks for "mehr?".

Since the last vocabulary post, Jade has also said "matchash", or something like that, which to her means garbage, and she also said "I love you" to Michael. Now, that’s the kind of thing that makes parenting so awesome!

I didn\’t even realize you had posted answers until after I had posted the solution, but I was impressed at how many of them you got.  You most definitely win!  The prize is a home-made dinner, okay?  All you have to do is get up here to collect. 😀
