Quick update

28 May

Jade and Michael came home from the hospital today, but they’re back there again.  Jade had another seizure right before bedtime, although this one wasn’t nearly as bad as any of the other ones.  We’re guessing that means the anti-seizure meds are working, though we’ll now be upping the dose a bit to try to eliminate them altogether.

On the positive side, it was a beautiful sunny day again in Whitehorse, and Jade and Michael had a great afternoon.  Michael set up our giant tent in the backyard and put Jade’s playpen in there, and she had a fabulously restful nap in the fresh air.  They spent the rest of the afternoon walking the neighbourhood and playing with some kids down the street.

Also, Michael and I are now a well-oiled machine when it comes to overnight hospital stays.  This time he rode down in the ambulance with Jade, while I packed everything into the car and drove down, because frankly, I’m better at packing.  (Michael, you better not be gloating about pulling a fast one on me!)

And so, the saga continues, I’m afraid.  I promise I’ll blog about something else again one of these days!

I’m pooped.  Off to bed with me.  I sure hope Jade has fallen asleep by now…

Fawn – I periodically touch base with both your blog and Michael’s. I am the mother of Garrett – Michael’s old friend from Morgan’s Grant. Let me tell you – I can identify with EVERYTHING you have written concerning your last several days with Jade’s seizures. You see, I went through all the same things with Garrett. He was 2 and a half when he had his first seizure. We went through the numerous seizures, the spinal tap (which they wouldn’t let me stay in the room for), the anti-convulsize meds, the EEGs, etc. They first diagnosed him with febrile convulsions, but he had no temperature either. The conclusion from the initial EEG was that he had epilepsy-like tendencies – which he would likely grow out of. He was on anti-convulsive meds for a few years, and his last seizure was at age 7, and as you know, he is perfectly fine now. I have felt all the raw emotions and concern that you are all going through and it is a tough time. My heart goes out to all of you. If you would like to hear more about my experiences with Garrett, please feel free to email me. Hang in there and give yourselves a hug! I will continue to monitor your blog for updates. My thoughts are with you…

Wow, you guys are real troopers. I’m sure that when this whole thing began you guys must’ve been freaked out of your minds (more than can be expressed in a blog post, that is), but you sure pulled together – way to go! I’m so sorry to hear that it looks like Jade has epilepsy. I guess as you said is that the good news is that it’s not life-threatening and she can grow out of it. Definitely need to look at the silver lining!

Hey there, Fawn – I just caught up on your latest news & I feel SO bad about what’s going on, & what you’ve been through (expecting everything to be okay again) … But, as everybody else, I’m glad that ~ at least ~ Michael & you are making such agreat team, & you have friends & neighbours trying to comfort you, & that Jade is SO brave, & seems to stay in a good mood, after all !! Wish there was something I could do … I’ll sure be thinking of you !!
