23 Weeks Pregnant

18 Jul

Michael headed off to Watson Lake this afternoon for a handgames (a.k.a stick-gambling) competition this weekend, so he couldn’t take the long overdue belly shot.  Every week I think about it, and every 5 weeks or so I remember to actually do it!

Here’s how Nugget’s bump is looking today:

Nugget at 23 weeks
Nugget at 23 weeks
I’m feeling huge and ungainly these days, and I think I’m somewhat bigger than when I was 23 weeks pregnant with Jade, but it’s hard to compare.  Nugget’s sitting in there differently compared to Jade.  S/he (Nugget, that is) seems to be much higher up, making my belly almost pointy, rather than round.  (Does this mean Nugget’s a boy?)  My belly button is also strangely deformed.  It’s like a half outie — only the top half sticks out a bit.  The bottom half of my belly button is just kind of flat.  Very weird.  (I still had an innie at this point with Jade.)
Nugget’s also interfering more with my internal organs, apparently.  Sometimes I think I have to pee when I don’t and I often have to stop eating minutes into a meal because there’s no room left in my stomach.  I’m not sure how Jade managed to stay out of the way, but even at the end of my pregnancy with her I could wolf down an entire restaurant meal with no discomfort.
Another thing: this little Nugget of mine is a busy little bee.  I feel him/her kicking away all day long, which is great.  One of the women at my office asked me today, “How’s the baby brewing?” and I told her I was getting kicked a lot, which I like.  She said it was the only part of pregnancy she liked.  It’s not the only thing I like about being pregnant, but it probably is the best part.  I have to admit I felt a lot cuter through my first pregnancy; this time ’round (no pun intended) I just feel big.  One woman in my office, whose remarks I generally try to ignore because she’s always saying stupid things, actually said to me this week, “Hey, you’re starting to look pretty fat, girl!”  I felt like snarling at her that I certainly weigh less than she does… but that wouldn’t have been very professional, would it?
I know I should really do something like enroll in a yoga or swim class to get some exercise; I’m sure it would give me more energy and perk up my spirits.  Of course the catch is that I feel too little energy to do anything about it right now!  *sigh* Maybe when Michael gets back…

Here’s what BabyCenter.com has to say about Nugget this week:

“Turn on the radio and sway to the music. With her sense of movement well developed by now, your baby can feel you dance. And now that she’s more than 11 inches long and weighs just over a pound (about as much as a large mango), you may be able to see her squirm underneath your clothes. Blood vessels in her lungs are developing to prepare for breathing, and the sounds that your baby’s increasingly keen ears pick up are preparing her for entry into the outside world. Loud noises that become familiar now — such as your dog barking or the roar of the vacuum cleaner — probably won’t faze her when she hears them outside the womb.”

Good for you for taking a belly shot. I didn’t really take any until I was much further along and bloated out like an utterly unattractive beached whale. I wish I’d taken some earlier when I was still in the fairly glowy phase. Oh well, too late now.

Thanks for stopping by Around The Island and for your kind words the other day.

Wow, you look great in that colour! I wish I could wear coral. *Sniff sniff…* Nugget’s looking pretty good in coral, too… 😉

Looks great! I know I carried my son and daughter differently. My son just stuck right out there and I was pretty uncomfortable. With daughter I carried her more “evenly” and it wasn’t so protruding. Maybe Jade has a brother in there!

I think you look adorable. And I know that might sound all cuddly and condescending, but I mean it in the most heartfelt way. I love the pointy bump. And I’m glad you’ve got a kicker. It’s always so reassuring, isn’t it? Hope you’ve had a lovely weekend. (Got the earring back yet?)
