Proud parenting moment

17 Aug

Jade was being squirrelly.  My patience was wearing thin.  I tried reasoning (ha! with a two-year-old!).  I tried distraction.  I tried hugs.  Finally, in exasperation I spat out, “Oh, grow UP!”

Then immediately clapped my hand to my mouth in horror.

Years ago, when I used to nanny, I remember being totally exasperated with my charge (who was usually such a well-behaved child) one day and saying something along the lines of “Hey. Settle down, young lady.”

To which she stood up straight… Turned and looked me straight in the eye… And announced, “I am NOT a young lady!”

She then threw her doll on the floor, stormed down the hallway to her bedroom and informed me that she was giving herself a T/O. To this day, I still chuckle when I think about it. 🙂

I can totally connect with you. Some years back i said the same thing to my daughter (a 4 yr old at that time) and she looked at me and said , ” The faster i grow up, the faster you will become old” and walked out.
