Babywearing week

11 Nov

Did you know that International Babywearing Week is November 12-18?

This past summer, I posted about how calming babywearing is, even for a toddler (Babywearing to the Rescue — this post has a darned cute picture of Jade riding in my amauti when she was about a year old, if you’re looking for a dose of cute).

Babywearing worked its magic again this past week, when my mom and I took the bus downtown.  My mom took Jade to the library while I ran errands.  Because of sucky scheduling, lunch time happened downtown and we were going to make it back just in time for Jade’s nap.  Unfortunately, Jade was having a pretty low-energy day, so she was exhausted by the time we were able to catch the bus home.  My mom wouldn’t let me carry her for long, but we didn’t have a stroller with us, so mom carried her instead;  light as Jade is, carrying a toddler in your arms gets tiring pretty quickly.  Luckily, I had my extra-long scarf with me, so we were able to rig up an impromptu carrier, similar to how First Nations baby belts worked (the link takes you to a photo of a gorgeously-beaded Gwitchin baby belt).  Our improvised sling worked so well, Jade actually fell asleep as we waited for the bus.  And my mom was totally relaxed.  Babywearing to the rescue, indeed.

Stephanie over at Adventures in Babywearing is hosting a giveaway to celebrate the week.  If you have a favourite babywearing photo, you can add your link to her site and be entered to win a Pop Nest Sling or a Sparrow Hatchling Sling from Nonny & Boo.  Happy babywearing!
