Today a chicken threw a tomato at me

25 Apr

I know I’m not alone in feeling that I spend every waking moment doing chores.  When I’m not cooking, I’m cleaning, when I’m not juggling competing demands from the small fry, I’m tending to the demands of the pets.  I get a shower in every couple of days, often with two kids crammed into the shower stall with me.  I’m up before 7 and don’t get to bed until after midnight, often closer to 1 a.m.

Since Amanda left, I barely have enough time to scroll through my feed reader, let alone keep up on my own blog, and there is a crazy backlog of little projects that shouldn’t take much time but just can’t be attended to.  Yes, I waste some time on Facebook, but if I didn’t do that, I would go stark, raving, crazy-lady mad.

I’m not complaining, honestly.  I know plenty of people who have it tougher than me — single parents, families with multiple special needs kids, families battling cancer.  But I must say, I sure miss having just a little bit more “me time”… and I know that I’m a better mama when I do.

As for the chicken, one really did throw a tomato at me today.  I was reheating leftover rice and a coconut/lemon/dill chicken breast, and I added some diced tomato to the bowl, popping the lot into the microwave.  As I sat down with the hot bowl, I poked the chicken breast with a spoon and it exploded with a loud pop! and sprayed hot tomato in every direction.

Jade was quite impressed.  My wrist got a little scalded, but fortunately there were no other casualties.

You never knew that life at home was so dangerous, did you?

When I dropped Bertrand off at “school” today (it is only once a week for 3 hours) I kinda giggled in the car on my way back home. I get to have my tea in one sitting! Eat breakfast! Fold laundry! Respond to emails! Three whole hours to myself!? I’m rich! LOL! That much I can relate to. Now, the chicken throwing the tomato, can’t way that’s ever happened. Yet. Give me time. 🙂

definitely foul play: perhaps the avenging of millions of innocent battered and/or smothered chickens across the world?
