Ten little fingers

2 Oct

Halia started biting her fingernails a couple of months ago.  I guess it must be in her genes, since I also bit my nails until university as a child.  She loves having her nails trimmed, but these days never has any nails left to trim.  She must miss having something to chew on, because a few days ago… she started biting her toenails.

I bit mine until into my thirties. Unfortunately, I was not flexible enough in adult life to be able to bite my toenails. And, yes, I think it is genetics. I don’t know how else our Pleistocene ancestors would have dealt with the problem.

I remember when Isaiah started biting his toe nails. I was so happy! One less thing to keep up with! LOL

My son started biting his nails too, at age 5. I STILL bite my nails. My parents tried all kinds of potions on my nails to get me to stop, but I never did, so I am not even bothering to ask my son to stop.

I bit mine for years, and then one day decided that I wanted to stop. But I still chew on them; I just don’t bite all the way through. It’s a hard habit to break.
